Kicheche Mara & Bush Camps

Kicheche Mara Camp is a classic luxury bush camp in the Masai Mara in Kenya. It is hidden in a grove of wild olive trees in a prolific wildlife area.  Game viewing starts right from the camp itself.

Kicheche offers a certain quality of wilderness living, but it is a canvas bush camp. Kicheche utilises alternative sources of energy like solar power and candlelight. The mod-cons of urban living in concrete lodges are not their scene. Nor is noisy nightlife. Not that Kicheche is silent; the natural sounds of the bush are all part of the experience.

Kicheche Bush Camp lies 30 minutes south of Kicheche Mara Camp. It is on a smaller scale, comprising of only six tents. They will all face west towards the setting sun over looking the hills and plains of the Mara and the distant Siria Escarpment. The tents will be sited longitudinally with en-suite bathroom facilities and a private veranda. The living room, bar and dining tent are in a small copse of acacias with comfortable hammocks hanging in the trees nearby for an afternoon nap.

Accommodation
Spacious, fully insect-proof tents. The en-suite private bathrooms have a central dressing area and separate compartments for the shower and toilet. Hot water for showers or washing is available at any time. There are canvas director's chairs on the veranda and hammocks slung between nearby trees to relax in.

Vehicles
Game-viewing drives are conducted by 4WD open-topped Landcruiser vehicles.

Nyati Tent
The Nyati tent with its comfortable local furnishings and informative collection of reference books is a delightful place to relax between game drives or other activities.

Masai Mara
Kenya's Masai Mara, lying adjacent to the Great Rift Valley, boasts the single largest concentration of plains game anywhere in the world.  The reserve is one of the very few areas left in Africa where wildlife can be seen in the large numbers that existed a hundred years ago.
Between July and October the plains darken with wildebeest and zebra, unending columns from the adjoining Serengeti passing through on their hazardous annual journey in search of fresh pastures, unaware that they themselves are prime targets for the relentless native predators - lions, leopards and cheetahs. But there is more to the Mara than its prolific wildlife - towering escarpments, acacia-dotted grasslands, blazing sunsets and towering rain clouds provide photo-opportunities at every turn.

Access
The Masai Mara is serviced daily from Nairobi by 2 scheduled flights. Kicheche Mara collect from the Ngerende airstrip in the western Mara, a twenty minute game-viewing drive from camp. Alternatively, for those using their own transport, Kicheche is about 4 ½ hours from Nairobi.
Access to Kicheche Bush Camp is via a scheduled one hour flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara OL-KIOMBO airstrip. Air Kenya & Safarilink fly twice a day.
